Genoa Italy and Movie Sites

Genoa

When Galen found out we were in Genoa Italy, he insisted we visit "the multi-coloured fishing village" but didn't say why.  It wasn't until we arrived that we immediately recognized it as the beautiful setting for the animated film Luca (fish boy grows legs, rides bike, defeats the town bully...)

On the earlier bike ride we were surprised by signs indicating that movies were filmed here - none of which I've seen, all of which are now on the list.  Last post I talked about how seeing historical sites brings them alive (almost the opposite of a museum), walking through a film location doesn't feel like being on a surreal movie set, but rather in touch with the inspiration and reality underlying the fiction of the movie.

Beyond the movie scenes, Genoa was just a beautiful place to visit.  The usual churches, markets, old well-preserved buildings, a classic University, and a train ride out into a smaller mountain town provided plenty of eye-candy for this last Italian photo drop.  Arrivederci, Italia!
